    History:

The Walnut Avenue Elementary School rain garden was installed as part of
    the
Stormwater Management in Your Backyard program that trained the Master
    Gardeners of Union County.

    Type of Runoff Managed:

This rain garden manages stormwater runoff from a portion of the Walnut Avenue         Elementary School's parking lot.

    Installation:

    Approximately fifteen volunteers, including the
Master Gardeners of
Union County and members of the Rahway River Association were present for
the installation of the rain garden in Fall 2005, which was approved by the Walnut
Avenue Elementary School Principal.  The Cranford Township Department of
Public Works provided in-kind assistance with the rain garden installation.                      Additional in-kind support and funding was provided by the Rutgers Cooperative             Extension Water Resources Program.
